Macmillan Coffee Morning - 29th September 2017

Every year, Macmillan hosts the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, encouraging people across the UK to help raise money for people facing cancer. This is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event of the year, in fact, last year their countrywide coffee mornings raised an astonishing £29.5 million.

MSL were eager to get involved this year and help Macmillan raise even more!

So, on the 29th September, our MSL charities team organised a Great MSL Bake-Off competition. Staff brought in a variety of homemade cakes and treats, which were then judged by our resident bake-off panel.

To continue the theme, MSL also arranged a cake decorating masterclass for staff members run by Sarah Bates from The Icing Workshop. Once Sarah Bates had demonstrated her icing magic, it was time for the staff to get involved in a bit of friendly competition.

Teams were formed from across the helpdesk, accounts and engineers, and each team was given 40 minutes to decorate their cake. There were no boundaries, teams could decorate their cakes however they chose to, which included celebrating MSL’s 10th anniversary, as well as a Winter themed cake. 1ST prize went to the Halloween themed cake, complete with mini pumpkins, spider’s webs and skeletons!

Check out the accompanying photos to see the fantastic cakes that were on display, some serious skills from the MSL team!

The coffee morning proved to be a great success, not only was it fun and an excellent team building exercise, but all the cakes and treats were then sold to our staff, raising a £100 in donations. The money we raised will help go towards providing medical, emotional, practical and financial support for people affected by cancer, as well as campaigning for better cancer care.
