MSL’s Health & Safety Manager Nicola Roper (pictured on the left) has recently been getting staff involved in health & safety in a more engaging way – using a quiz to test peoples’ knowledge of Health & Safety. The first quiz, May 2016, was based around H&S General Knowledge with the aim of helping members of staff to become more aware, through fun and interesting means (rather than reading a book!) (all answers provided by the HSE).
The quiz was made up of 10 different statements with at least one statistic missing, staff were given multiple choice answers and could drag the correct answer into the correct box to complete each one. The quiz was distributed to all members of staff from MSL. (and when there is a bottle of prosecco for the winner it didn’t take much convincing for people to reply!)
There were 17 returns with 100% correct answers, but the name drawn out of the hat was Holly Wheeler – one of MSL’s new Helpdesk coordinators (pictured on the right below):
June 2016 will see staff attempting the questions on working at height.
Some example questions from the quiz: (answers at the bottom)
- ________ workers were killed at work in 2014/2015.
- In 2013 there were _______ deaths where Asbestosis was recorded as the underlying cause.
- Deaths from _______ continue to increase in Great Britain, a legacy of heavy exposures to asbestos in the past.
142 workers were killed at work in 2014/2015.
In 2013 there were 217 deaths where Asbestosis was recorded as the underlying cause.
Deaths from Asbestosis continue to increase in Great Britain, a legacy of heavy exposures to asbestos in the past.
These facts underline the importance of regular asbestos awareness training for people whose work may disturb and potentially expose themselves to Asbestos. For further details of training for asbestos follow this link. Or visit http:s//www.ukata.org.uk/
